![]() You may be dealing with many emotions after an ectopic pregnancy, even if you were not planning to become pregnant. ![]() get your hcg checked every 72 hrs as 48hrs isn't enough time, it can take 72hrs for it to double in some woman which is normal. My hcg levels were at 19,000 at 3 weeks past ovulation. At-home urine tests require higher levels of hCG to detect a pregnancy, typically at least 20 mIU/mL. Let us know how you go.What were your hcg levels with ectopic. ![]() I'm sorry to echo your ob's worries, I really do hope it's good news, I just thought it's best to get an idea of the potential outcomes so you can prepare yourself for any event. If it's not the case, then another scan should show a fetal pole and hopefully a heartbeat, and fingers crossed a happy and healthy 9 months. Obviously this may not be the case, but if it is unfortunately you need to keep seeing your OB and prepare yourself for the worst. If this is the case, your OB is absolutely right to express their concerns to you and monitor you closely as it needs to be treated asap. It usually occurs when two sperm fertilise one egg. It is essentially a pregnancy which has failed, but continues to grow, which can be very dangerous to mum so needs to be treated pretty quickly. I'm not a physician so just continue following up with your OB, but with what you describe I imagine that your OB is concerned about a molar pregnancy, which is in part diagnosed by finding a growing, but empty, gestational sack (so no fetus or fetal pole) and high, fast rising, hcg. All pregnancies are different, but just so you get a reference point. For reference, I saw a fetal pole in my 5+2 week scan (no heartbeat) when my hcg was 5000, with my son. Generally, while there wouldn't necessarily be a heartbeat, you would generally be able to see a fetal pole with that level hcg and at that gestation. I don't think your OB is doing anything wrong being concerned and following up. Hey, I don't want to worry you more but it is a little concerning that your hcg levels are so high and there is no fetal pole visible. ![]() ![]()
